Obsany is a new Berlin-based quartet led by guitarist Simon Jermyn, featuring Petter Eldh on electric bass, Otis Sandjo on tenor saxophone, and Lukas Akintaya on drums.

Obsany play Jermyn's compositions, an exciting and fun mixture of grooves, surprising melodies, open improvisation and soundscapes. This band's influences run the gamut, from jazz and improvised music through electronica, new music, afropop and rock.

(Obsany is a word that Simon remembers from a dream—it doesn't seem to exist in any form or language that the internet can find.)

Simon Jermyn moved to Berlin in August 2020 after 11 years living in NYC. He has worked with many important musicians including John Zorn, Jim Black, Gerald Cleaver, Tom Rainey, Chris Speed, Mat Maneri and Chris Lightcap. He is only the second Irish musician to perform at The Village Vanguard, and holds a PhD from Ulster University, Northern Ireland.

Swedish bassist and producer Petter Eldh is one of the most respected musicians on the European jazz scene, known for his work with his own group Koma Saxo, Lucia Cadotch's Speak Low, Enemy with Kit Downes and James Maddren, and Django Bates' trio.

Otis Sandjo plays tenor saxophone and is involved with a plethora of innovative bands on the European scene, including Speak Low, Koma Saxo, and his own genre-bending group Y-Otis.

German drummer Lukas Akintaya currently lives in Berlin. His quartet HUES recently released their debut album on Chris Speed's record label, Skirl Records. He is also a member of HOLON Trio, with whom he has composed for orchestra. In addition to his own bands, he is active as a sideman and collaborator.
